American conservatives - Fact Free!

August 12th 2009 01:22
If Ignorance is bliss, why aren't conservatives a happier lot? They're mad as hell, and they aren't going to take it anymore. They will fight everything, everywhere. No to it all! Those are the marching orders given the mindless minions by their god heads.

Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Mark Levin, all of them cry to the heavens for "real" Americans to stand up against the tyranny of the liberal agenda. Be it ACORN or Americans wanting health care reform -anyone not with them is against them, regardless of fact or viewpoint.

Never mind that health care reform would benefit all those yahoos yelling at town hall meetings (especially benefits that would allow visits to dietitians and dentists) the ill-informed and logic-intolerant ranters are out there fighting for health insurance companies. It's very commendable to have an opinion and to voice it, it's much less so to have it given to you when you don't even know facts yourself.

When it comes to health care, the ditto heads and company are going to the wall. Not taking facts with them, mind you -but they are willing to fight like it means their very life to defend health insurance companies "right" make even more money off of them.

Ever wonder how countries like Germany, Japan, France, etc - got health care that is proving to be better than ours? The Marshall Plan played a big part. After WWII President Truman wanted universal single payer health care for America. The Republicans in Congress blocked it. Truman decided it had to be a part of the post-war rebuilding in other countries. He thought it would work there, we would see it, and take it on here. He didn't forsee the Reagan Revolution.

And at the same time as Reagan was setting back everything from worker's rights to education in America, he was building on the plans started under Nixon to cement American health care as a for-profit enterprise in which the more unhealthy the populace is, the more money made. Now, even as the health care system is so obviously broken and unsustainable, it's very hard to get change.

We have gone through more than thirty years of the right wing blocking any real change or improvement on anything that would benefit average Americans. And now as the conservative ascendancy lies dying in a ditch, they are desperate to remain relative.

The people who are committed members of the conservative movement have spent most of their lives in the soup, unable and unwilling to look beyond what information is fed them. The information handlers on the right have so perfected their art that millions of people never even think to question what is fed them, let alone ask why.

Ask your average FOX viewer a question on any issue, and their answer is likely to be very similar to what Hannity or O'Reilly said the night before. They have given up the cumbersome burden of having to form their own thoughts.

The only responses they have for different ideas, regardless of the validity of those ideas, is to yell and scream, defame and debase. But alas, there is a silver lining. They are driving themselves to the fringe, making it more likely that the far right will not be able to muster anyone beyond their shrinking base in the future. Go righties!

Jeff, very well put. I share your views, and I write about them in my blog, Schmoozer. What I can't understand is that most of the people who share the views of the Republican/Conservative Party are not wealthy but working stiffs who are getting stiffed by the same party they support. Why are they so afraid to try something different?

The most vocal protestors at the medical plan town hall meetings are working stiffs and retirees who support the Republican/Conservative Party and who mindlessly scream the half truths and lies that have been fed to them by Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Glenn Beck. Yet, many of them are unemployed, with no insurance, or they are employed but are paying through the nose for health insurance that may be excluding illnesses from coverage. I don't get it.

Keep blogging.
