Big Brother 8, oh, God!

September 19th 2007 17:44
This was the first time I watched the CBS reality series "Big Brother" and I found it more interesting than I imagined I would. The show did seem like sort of a microcosm of American society, if you would. Of course, that's over simplistic. But still worth looking at. And in the end, it came down to the same factions that are battling the "culture wars" in the country today.

There were the self-centered, the narcissistic, the back-stabbing, and moments of genuine emotion. There were a couple of people I could hang out with, and some I couldn't imagine being around for very long at all. More in the second category than the first, mind you.

The show did to me what it is designed to do,hook me in to where I care from one show to the next what happened. There are probably many hooks they use, but it was an old standby that got me. The perceived battle between good and evil, the Christians against the dark forces of Dick.

When it came down to the final two, it turned out to be the father/daughter team of Dick and Daniele. I think it was the third or fourth week that I began watching the show, and immediately started rooting for Dick. He played a hell of a game, and pissed off most of the house guests. Dick played it straight up, never trying to hide behind some stupid or insipid excuse. Even though his daughter won critical contests that kept him in, it was the strategy of Dick that drove the victory. And his steadfast determination to push himself. Score one for the "Evel Dick."

The two that I absolutely could not stand were Jameka and Amber. The constant crying of Amber, the constant praying of both Amber and Jameka, damn - that would have driven me flat bonkers. Anyone out there who is a "real" Christian should be totally taken aback by the antics of those two, constantly evoking God as their ally in the game, constantly asking for his help to give their self-righteous, self-centered asses money. They represent a very pathetic type of person, that would think a supposedly all-powerful God would give a rats ass about them and their chances in a game.

Not that I think God can't be involved in fun, games, and entertainment, I just think he needs to take a couple of minutes and end world hunger or cancer, perhaps he could send a message to Mr. Bush telling him to stop killing for profit. Oh, that's right, he gives us "free will." You know, it's alot of work saving the world when you're an omnipotent being. Much easier to help poor little Amber or Jameka win big brother. And the "Christian speak" they used was irritating too. Calling for angels to come help them. It's not God's fault you suck at the game, girls. Kail, who was evicted earlier in the game at least had the sense to keep it a little to herself.

Dick was definitely the best player of the game, and the best man did indeed win.
