Bush expected to call for permanent Iraq presence
September 13th 2007 22:04
Here it is, the time when George W. Bush is going to finally admit to the American people and the world what he truly wants to do in Iraq. Well, at least part of his agenda. He thinks he found in General Petraeus a man who can be the face of his failed policy, and give it a sheen of legitimacy. Those of us awake enough to see it have been saying for years that Mr. Bush was lying every time he spoke about Iraq. That he wanted a further permanent military presence in Iraq. That the gulf bases weren't enough, he wanted to be firmly entrenched in the land between the Tigris and Euphrates. Those who know the Dominionist religious philosophy of the president know what that means.
And now it seems the president is to fully back the current government in Iraq, against whatever enemy. He is repeating the same mistake Reagan committed in Lebanon. Backing a side in a civil war. What gives him the power to do this on behalf of the American people, who absolutely do not want this, except for his nutcase base? Those of you who aren't part of that base yet did lend your support to Mr. Bush need to consider that some of us "told you so."
We told you that Bush is building the biggest embassy compound in the world in Baghdad. We told you he is building permanent bases around the country. We told you he is digging such a hole that he feels no president that comes after him will be able to dig out from it. Some of you didn't listen, you said "wait for the report," or we have to defeat them over there," or some other spoon-fed propaganda. Well, here ya go. The president is going to tell you himself. Maybe the leaks aren't what he will say, we will see in a few hours. Either way, his agenda is exposed.
We even told you he might try some political chicanery that he thinks will allow him to stay in the White House. That one has yet to be seen. Hopefully, the slim victory by the Democrats in 2006 has exposed enough of the Bush agenda so that he will not be able to try anything. There has not been a more important time for dissent in the history of America. If you truly value your freedom, it is not being fought for on the sands of Iraq. It is being fought for now, at home.
The worst president in the history of the United States of America wants desperately to try to do something to change that perception, even if he can't change that reality. He wants the focus to be on being afraid, on feeling that we need to "trust him." This president has never wanted anything for Iraq, he has just wanted Iraq. Some have said it's not about the oil, that America isn't getting much Iraqi oil. Not directly, it was more about raising the price of oil and putting a claim on future supplies. Some have said the occupation isn't about making money, yet Halliburton and KBR and the rest are making money by the literal truckload. Every American should be ashamed that this man is called our president.
