Bush shows his true colors, vetoes health care for kids

The absolute worst president in American history once again proved why he earns that title on a near daily basis. With very little in the way of fanfare, the president did what he promised, giving a veto to the bill that would expand medical coverage for children. Showing his true colors again (disdain for the American people who aren't rich) he gave a big screw you to those who actually make the country run. And once again, Mr. Bush has even gone against some in his own party to veto a bill that offends the core of his base. Many members of Congress up for re-election are going to have to answer for sticking by the president if the veto holds. There are enough yes votes in the Senate to override, but not in the House.
The majority of Americans are behind the bill to extend children's' health care, even in the "red" states. People everywhere are realizing that it is part and parcel of a civilized country to support the health of its citizens, most especially the children. The American health care system is spiraling downward into an abyss of higher costs and lesser care while the president and his party seem content to fiddle. Swaggering out of the White House with his stupid look of victory that he shows when he thinks he has won something, the president might as well have raised his middle finger to the Middle Class.
As someone who has a young son who would have been given much needed coverage under the plan, I am more than just upset with Mr. Bush on a policy level. The crass piece of neo-conservative crap made a direct swipe at my son. As if I didn't have enough reasons to despise the man. Mr. Bush has no problem handing billions over to the super rich, yet feels the need to deny coverage to my son that he would have automatically in every other industrialized (and many that are not) country in the world. The same man who doesn't mind throwing hundreds of billions of dollars down unaccountable holes in Iraq cannot see it clear to provide for America's children. The same president who wanted to do away with inheritance taxes on the very rich is now, once again, showing his true colors.
What I can't understand is how many of those who still support him are the very people his policies attack. I can see how the super rich are more than happy (even though many of them are disgusted too) but what about those in the Middle Class who still cling to him? It comes down to religion and Christian fundamentalist mythologies. As long as he is one of them, he is fine with them. And they are more than happy to support a president who is willing to sign away a sound bill that would help America's children become secure in their futures. As long as he is against stem cell research and Roe vs Wade, as long as he is in favor of crusading against the infidels (and making alot of money for his cronies) as long as he caters to the prayer-in-school and ten-commandments crowd, he has their support.
