General Petreaus report will "betray us"
September 8th 2007 05:01
We are just a few days away from the report we were all supposed to wait for. The report that would be a definitive statement on the Iraq occupation. The report that we were told would be used to determine the course of action for the foreseeable future. If the "surge" worked, we would be told. If it wasn't, we would be informed, and a different course would be taken. Of course, that was never the real plan. This president never wanted to hear anything but his line, he never wanted anything but a long term occupation of Iraq, if not more of the Middle East.
Our glorious leader was just in Iraq, pumping up the rhetoric in advance of the "report," while at the same time continuing toward an attack against Iran. The "surge" is anything but. It is a well-calculated move to permanently require troops in the Middle East. There is alot of money to be made in turmoil, after all. I cannot see how anyone can still think that there was anything approaching an honorable reason behind the attacks on Iraq. It is as plain as a blueprint drawn in crayon on a cardboard box. President Bush believes you can fool some of the people all of the time, and he aims to go to that well once again. We cannot let him.
And now we hear that the successes being touted in Anbar province have nothing to do with the surge at all, but are the result of the United States now arming and supporting Sunni militias in Anbar who agreed to fight against Al Qaeda in Iraq. Of course, they also will use the same weapons to fight the Baghdad central government. What's that, you say? In other words, Mr. Bush and company are doing what they can to ensure future conflict which can help to ensure further occupation. Our idiot in chief has no intention of reducing troop levels beyond a show brigade or two, while doing everything he can to press the next person in the Oval Office will be forced to stay there.
The promise of the Petraeus report was never more than a smokescreen, a cover to look like there was something being changed. Of course more troops can temporarily slow down the insurgencies. That doesn't solve anything if nothing is done on political fronts, and the drops in numbers are doomed to be short-lived. And now we have reports that the main reason death numbers are down is because they have changed the way killings are counted. For example, if a person is shot in the back of the head it is called Insurgent related violence. If they happen to be shot from the front, the death is not counted. That is now called criminal activity
Corruption is out of control at all levels of the Iraqi government and within the U.S. sanctioned private contractors working in Iraq. Literally billions of dollars are unaccounted for. Odds are, most of them are in the hands of Bush cronies and those who look the other way. Hundreds of thousands of weapons have disappeared, sure to be seen again in the hands of those we call our enemies. This occupation is designed to enrich the few at the expense of the futures of the children of the world. I, for one, will not stand for it. I ask you to add your voice to those of us who want this criminal enterprise to be brought to justice.
