John McCain suggests moveon.org be "thrown out of the country"

The old "straight talk express" derailed itself either further, as Senator John McCain said that moveon.org should be "thrown out of the country" for the ad referring to General David Petraeus with the words "betray us." Well, first and foremost, betray us he did, by "reporting" an assessment on Iraq that was essentially a collection of the talking points of Mr. Bush. Moveon.org is pointing out that the president has found who he sees to be another figure above reproach to beat his war drums for him. Those who criticized Colin Powell when he was called upon to do that during the ginning up of the Iraq invasion were attacked then, and what do you know - they were right, there was no meat to the arguments.
And this time, as should be expected, the American right wing spin machine has jumped all over moveon.org for speaking out. The supposed right to free speech notwithstanding, it still is hypocritical at best for John McCain to say that moveon.org should be thrown out of the country. As a moveon member, I can tell Mr. McCain that I have every intention of staying here in Oregon. Not that I wouldn't mind living expat, especially if Americans keep electing jackasses. Still, I would prefer something like that to be of my own free will, not exiled because I see through the thin veil that is the neo-con agenda.
All of the expected right wing pundits and mouthpieces, as well as the presidential candidates, have jumped on the heap, trashing moveon.org. Again, I have no problem at all with them doing it, to the informed voter it just makes them look bad. Of course, most conservative voters are not "informed."
What McCain said was a little reminder of the kind of America, and in their mind, world - that the neo-con agenda aspires to. Where dissent is not only frowned upon, it is liable to get you detained, "questioned" aggressively, or yes, even exiled.
John McCain at one time at least had my respect for his service and the fact that he endured as a prisoner of war. He has chosen to overshadow all of that with his blind and idiotic ambition to be president. He made the choice to kiss up to the religious right, and to engage in the politics of fear and slander. The "straight talk express" has derailed, alright.
