Kanye West at the VMAs...part of summer of crazy?
September 15th 2009 01:59
Kanye West isn't happy that Taylor Swift won a VMA. Is it just me, or is it a sign I'm getting older - why do the VMAs suck so much anymore? (Off on a tangent, I'm back now)
Serena Williams goes off on a line judge, threatening to do things with the tennis ball that don't fall within the tennis rulebook.
Joe Wilson embarrasses himself and Congress by calling the president a liar during a speech to both houses in a joint session.
Glenn Beck is wistfully hoping to become a martyr whilst berating anything and everything not in his very narrow world view.
The President of the United States is talked about like he is a bum on the street asking for your last quarter, or asking kids to stay in school!
Michael Savage, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, on and on and on. They are going over the edge of a sanity cliff, and it seems more and more people want to go with them. What gives?
I call it "Joe the Plumber" Syndrome. It began last summer when good ol' Joe became a FOX News hero after confronting President Obama with a now forgotten question. Joe hopped aboard that fame horse and is still riding it, even after Little Blackie gave out under John Wayne.
Carry over to this year, and look at right wing radio ginning everybody up. The emerging point man seems to be Glenn Beck (much to the chagrin of Rush Limbaugh, I'm sure) who has assumed some neo-messianic complex wherein he sees himself as one of the "New Founders" of a re-captured America.
Then we were besieged by the town hall "protesters." One after the other, they lined up to be more outrageous than the last. And of course, to get on that night's Hannity show.
Kanye West, Glenn Beck, Serena Williams, Joe Wilson, and "the plumber" are all of them symptomatic of a country too damned wound up? What's next? Will someone's grandmother go all Eastwood and blast all the unforgiven? Will Newt Gingrich slap a puppy on FOX News?
Joe Wilson should be forced by his colleagues to apologize from the well of the House. Kanye West shouldn't sell another CD for a year. Serena Williams should face a suspension. Glenn Beck should lose every advertiser he has until he is forced to shoot himself on FOX News to get his notoriety. Town hall meetings should go back to being droll and policy centered. And Americans should get ahold of themselves!

The Barack Obama/ Joe Wilson thing was funny. Our politicians interrupt and jeer each other all the time so through my eyes, it didn't seem so strange, but the look on Pelosi and Biden's faces were quite priceless. Of course no Wilson is a hero.
Poor Obama, I just wish he would stop sucking up to people who are going to hate him no matter what he does.
