More from the wacky right - "Light Bulb Tyranny"
July 5th 2009 00:51
Determined to oppose everything even to the point of laughable lunacy, the right is ranting about efficient light bulbs.
It's fairly obvious the right wants to oppose anything and everything the Obama Administration even thinks about doing. With nothing but tired policies and defunct agendas, the strategy is to stall and and to obstruct, with a hope of regaining power if Obama fails. Yes, it's true, they are openly rooting for him to fail - and not just on single policies, but on every level.
They would complain if Obama found a way to power cars with puppy poop. Probably call it a socialist take-over of the puppy poop production in America designed to deprive Americans of their god-given right to drive gas guzzlers.
Here in Portland the city announced a program designed to reduce fuel consumption by restricting idle time. And there were right wing yahoos who pledged to idle their cars more in protest - never mind costing themselves money, they need to fight for their right to screw up the environment. One of the latest examples comes from something as innocuous as the light bulb. Conservatives are in a huff because President Obama had the audacity to suggest we change our light bulbs.
Never mind that doing so will reduce carbon emissions, will reduce electricity bills in America by an estimated 18 billion a year, will eliminate the need for the equivalent of about 30 nuclear power plants or 80 coal fired plants - they want their old-fashioned light bulbs?
While being against progress might be quaint when one tours Amish country, it hardly makes sense as national policy. The incandescent light bulb hasn't changed much since it was invented. It loses about 98 percent of the energy applied to it as heat. Compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs) are three times more efficient, and light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are six times.
But what about the tyranny? I caught a bit of the right wing mouthpiece Mark Levin a few days ago, and he was hopping mad. he actually used the term "light bulb tyranny" claiming that it was yet another signs we are under what he calls a "light tyranny." He went on to say "if they can control the light bulb" then just what might be next?
Funny, the so-called "Great One" as his minions call Mark Levin, doesn't have anything bad to say about torture, illegal wiretapping, or incompetent conservative government. Mark Levin only finds fault with those who don't follow his strict interpretation of conservatism.
In another segment he promised to fight to defeat any Republicans who voted for the cap and trade legislation. Mark Levin and others like him don't have any room for compromise or discussion, and don't give any quarter to progressive thought. It's their way or now way, and that's why they are so angry now.
Mark Levin and his minions can leave their lights on, refuse to change bulbs, idle their cars and trucks, but the rest of us are moving ahead - and laughing at them.
