It's Jan 3rd...how are your New Year Resolutions?
January 3rd 2008 18:55
Yes, boys and girls....it's the 3rd day of 2008. Many of you have already slipped on those oh so easy to make New Year's Resolutions. Some have already fallen off whatever wagon they had picked, from quitting drinking or smoking to losing some poundage. And some are doing great....what's the secret? The secret is that there really is no secret. It's a combination of a matter of will and realistic resolutions. From that, borrow the phrase from Nike, and "just do it."
Another important facet of a successfully met resolution is this - is it something you really want to do? If you are merely resolving to lose a few pounds because that's what people do, or to quit smoking because you feel pressure to, your chances for success are slim. On the other hand, if it is something you really want for you, go get 'em, tiger!
Mine were fairly simple....to wake up next to my wife each morning and know that she is my princess, my joy. To revel in the experiences that my young son brings me each day, and to continue to work to bridge the divide with my older son. To work hard to make our new company a success. And to work for a sea change in American politics that brings a more progressive and worthy country. Those are my desires, my wishes, my goals...and my resolutions.
On a funny side note, I will add a resolution I made over ten years ago that I have kept without exception. A friend of mine resolved to stop drinking alcohol, and asked me to join her. I agreed to meet her halfway. I resolved to stop drinking the bad stuff. Haven't had a Bud since. She only lasted a couple of weeks, I'm still going strong.
Sure, there will be days when I fall short in one category or another. But if I know that those are my guiding motivations, and I approach each with a sense of pride and honor, I will look back at the end of 2008 and smile. So resolve to do something, and make it something you want to do....then do it! Happy New Year to all!
