Rachel and T.K win Amazing Race!

January 21st 2008 05:07
My favorite "reality show" is Amazing Race on CBS. It has been from the start. I love the idea of a 'round the world race, pitting a team against obstacles along the way. I love seeing how different people and personalities deal with what is thrown at them. And I love seeing the teams who respect the cultures they visit and have fun along the way triumph over the "ugly Americans." Granted, it doesn't always turn out that way - but often it does, and viewers get a chance to see

Rachel and T.K.
The winners!

This time I would have been happy with any of the three final teams. The last really irritating duo, Nate and Jen, got eliminated last week. What a charming pair of co-dependents! Ron and Christina, the father and daughter team, grew in their relationship and learned to overcome. Nicolas and Donald, the grandson/grandfather team, were pretty likable too. Nicolas was smart and helped Grandpa when he could, while Donald showed that age doesn't have to hold a team back. He was the oldest contestant to ever make the final three. I also liked that he wasn't afraid to drop the F word here and there.

The winning team of Rachel and T.K. seemed to really enjoy the race, more than just running after one million dollars. Keeping calm and keeping prospective proved to be the winning formula. Even after a flight choice mistake put them last in a non-elimination leg, they quickly accomplished the extra task without freaking out and made up the time. And for those who think easy-going people are lazy or "slackers," T.K. is a teacher and Rachel owns a flower shop. And now they have a million bucks!

If you watched the Amazing Race you know what went on so I won't bore you with a recap. If you didn't a recap won't suffice, but make sure you watch the next one! I think there are lessons for everyone in the show. Geography, for starters - it is amazing how ignorant so many people are when it comes to world geography. Patience and "out of the box" thinking are two more qualities that go along way in a race around the world. I'm gonna be on that show yet! I promised my wife I would wait until she could go too....
